Gum Recession

Do you have gum recession? This can be treated and it will improve the appearance, help with cleaning and improve the long term health of the teeth.

Gum Recession

Gum Recession

  • Caused by gum disease
  • Caused over-vigorous brushing
  • Caused by using a hard tooth brush.
  • Occurs where the gum and the bone overlying the roots is very thin.
  • Can follow orthodontic treatment

Recession can be treated by grafting. Gum tissue is taken from below the surface of the palate and grafted over the area where recession has occurred. Sometimes it is not possible to cover all the area of exposed root but the aim is to cover the most of it and increase the thickness of the gum to prevent further recession.
