Teens skipping breakfast can be recipe for halitosis horror!

A study published in the International Journal of Dental Hygiene shows that teenagers are almost twice as likely to suffer from bad breath when the skip breakfast with one-fifth questioned admitting missing this most 'important meal of the day'.

Bad breath or halitosis has a number of causes the prevalent one being the build up of bacteria on the tongue.

Eating breakfast scrubs the tongue so reducing the volume of bacteria present that produces the gases that generate bad breath.

As the tongue is a major culprit it makes sense to acquire a tongue scraper or to use the toothbrush to gently brush the upper surface of the tongue on a regular basis.

The build up of bacterial plaque in the mouth is more than an aesthetic problem it cal also lead to tooth decay and gum recession.

Of course, halitosis is not just a teen problems, and can be embarrassing in work colleagues so for those who like to get out of bed at the last minute might want to make time to include a small meal before dashing for the train.
