How gum grafts work

Gum is taken from the palate (see diagram) and is used to replace the missing gum where there is recession.

How gum grafts work
The graft is placed over the exposed root, and the surrounding gum is then pulled over the graft. This is left to heal for two weeks before the stitches are removed. Special instructions regarding cleaning are then given for the following four weeks after which the healing is complete.
